Dorinda's Zinnias

I recently completed this painting commission, after spending months laboring over it for best results. It is 12 X 12", oil on canvas. Sold yesterday! I am pleased with the painting, which is more important to me than the price .

San Antonio, Texas

In addition to warm weather, San Antonio offers the beautiful Riverwalk and the very old Alamo, a history lesson in itself. Situated southwest of Austin, San Antonio is a brief drive worth the effort.

Things to See in Austin

The Driskill Hotel-- historic and beautiful
Caseys Snowballs! Who knew?
Lady Bird Lake behind the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin

Lyndon Baines Johnson: A Force Of Nature

A tour of LBJ's presidential library served to remind me of the
tremendous contributions, i. e. , the Great Society, that President Johnson contributed to the fabric of our nation: college student loans, Head Start, VISTA, and Medicare, just to name a few.

The Oval Office recreated with LBJ's furnishings from the sixties on the tenth floor of the LBJ Library on the campus of the University of Texas.

Austin Eats

The Roaring Fork in downtown Austin, Texas, is a creative outpost for foodies. Where else have you seen fried guacamole? Well, maybe you don't want to, but I know you would love the Mexican Street Corn and the Blackened Redfish  atop quinoa and lentils. And a reasonable price on food and beverages never hurts.
Reservations should be made months in advance. Such is their popularity.

Keep Austin Weird

Limbo Jewelry Designs sells the following pillows, candles, nameplates, and other cool humorous creations.

Patrick Swayze, a Texas "hero", Nick Cage, etc.

Observe the prayer candles for Trump, David Bowie, Matthew McConnaughey, et al.
Crazy Cat Lady candle really does smell like cat litter! Used.
A better choice is Baked Bread.

A common refrain around here, Keeping Austin Weird, could be rephrased as Keep Austin Hip.

SoCo, a very popular neighborhood, is a short walk from Ann Richards Bridge, where the Congress Street bats hang out March to September eating mosquitoes and scaring the tourists.
Shops selling cowboy hats, cowboy boots, etc., are not hip, but Tesoros and Yard Dog Art Gallery have the quirk factor that hipsters relish.
Mexican Wrestling masks for Lucha at Tesoro
More oddities at Tesoro
Love these office "nameplates" at LimboJewelry  Designs
Rather than eating at the popular but mediocre Guerros, try Max's Wine Dive, a mile or so north. Yummy and hipster gourmet.
Austin is a great winter time escape.

Can You Taste It?

It is the flavor of New Orleans, and it is delicious! The tastes, the sights...fresh shrimp abound in the land of the Big Easy.
We chanced upon the filming of the television show NCIS: New Orleans. See the coroner's car above?
