This spring, I recommend that you take in the current shows at The National Portrait Gallery -- featuring a portrait of Kevin Spacey as the President -- and the Impressionism show which features Childe Hassam, John Singer Sargent, and other American luminaries such as Mary Cassatt. The Impressionism show is on display at the Smithsonian's American Museum of Art, which is next door to the Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC's Penn Quarter.
