Now on Display at River Farm, My Very Newest Painting

Marigolds, Carnations and Mango
How sweetly do these flowers sing? I had a lovely time painting these common flowers in my pretty vases. They feel so fresh and alive to me. The Mason jar is also quick and seemingly effortless. (Although I can promise you, no painting is ever effortless.)It is the goal of any artist, whether playwright, actor, or ballet dancer, to make the difficult look easy.
Please come and visit this painting in person!

Dear Imaginary Friends,

When I signed up two years ago to have a one woman show, I promised to produce a body of work that contained at least 45 original oil paintings that were all natural, i.e., florals, fruit, vegetables, gardens, seascapes, landscapes, and the grounds of River Farms. I ended up painting four paintings specifically of River Farms and grounds, and seventy-two total to hang on the walls of every room of this magnificent historic building.

I am most assuredly a prolific painter. However, the architectural paintings were slow and deliberate. I kept adjusting over and over again little aspects of proportion, color, shadow. The fruits and vegetables were more loose and free. Not so, the landscapes; I have a hang up about painting trees. For me, it is like speaking in a foreign language; just my little quirk.

Of the above paintings, the one that took me a month was Grace Gathering Shells. I kept changing the little girl and the shoreline, as well as the color of Lewes Bay, to make it interesting and unexpected.

What's Fun to Do and See This Weekend?

Six Irises
Miami Deco
I am so glad that you asked! Please head on down to Green Springs Garden Park, off Duke Street in Annandale, Virginia. I have a new show, open this weekend, with thirty oil paintings of all things related to nature.http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/gsgp/
Harmony in Orange
Wall in One of the Two Tea Rooms
The show fills two large rooms in the Historic Tea Rooms in the Manor.//www.gardenvisit.com/garden/green_springs_gardens_park
The old manor house was built with old boards, some of which were salvaged from a bordello!
It is a lovely space, and it is all Uchello work for the next two months. They are open Wednesdays through Sundays.
Please take a peek, and have a cup of tea, while you are at it!

River Farms

This is one of the paintings that I plan to exhibit at River Farms, home of the American Horticultural Society in Alexandria, VA, September 2012 through January 2013.
There will be 45 paintings all told.  That is a big goal for me! Sixteen vats of iced tea should give me the caffeine I need to make it there.:)| Plus the sugar rush of a case of Twizzlers.

The NIH Postcard

This painting, Sit Still, is featured on my new postcard for the NIH show. It will also, most likely, be shown in the Elan Magazine article.
