Now on Display at River Farm, My Very Newest Painting

Marigolds, Carnations and Mango
How sweetly do these flowers sing? I had a lovely time painting these common flowers in my pretty vases. They feel so fresh and alive to me. The Mason jar is also quick and seemingly effortless. (Although I can promise you, no painting is ever effortless.)It is the goal of any artist, whether playwright, actor, or ballet dancer, to make the difficult look easy.
Please come and visit this painting in person!

Bucket of Apples

Dear Imaginary Friends,

What is a better signifier of Spring than yellow and light green in the landscape? I am a big fan of daffodils, which chase away the winter blues.

Just One Year Ago

One year ago, I was hanging my one woman art show at River Farm,  the headquarters of the American Horticultural Society, along the verdant banks of the Potomac River.

Which leads me to pondering my next show there, in two years... It takes years to develop a new body of work, good enough technically and interesting enough.  The minute that show was hung, I started producing new work. This year, I have already produced at least 12-18 new oil paintings that will be suitable for hanging. Some of them have sold. So I just keep churning out new work, to keep up. It is exciting; it is fun; and it is draining. But most good things in life are!

I love having a goal, an end game. A huge show in which I hang 80 paintings is a real challenge, but ultimately doable.
Sorry, but I have to stop typing and resume painting!

A Pair of Pears

Dear Imaginary Friends,

What tastes better in autumn than a nice juicy Bartlett pear? Not much, so I painted the same pear in two different poses as a visual poem to its tastiness. The first one is the pear at attention and the second one is the lazy recumbent pear.

Yellow Pear, 7 x 5", Oil

Pear Down, 7" x 5", Oil

Harmony in Green, 16 x 20", Oil

I also painted a green chicken. Check it out! It is a safe bet that this is the first and last painting you will ever see of a green chicken! You will notice the same silver tumbler appears in two paintings, as does the same Bartlett pear. Hey, a girl only has so much stuff to paint! The cast has a broad repertory of poses, much like musical chairs.

The Yellow Pear and the Harmony in Green, aka, Green Chicken, were hung today by yours truly in my one woman show at River Farm. If you haven't seen the show yet, it is up through January 7, 2013.

Peach Season

By Patricia Uchello
What better food than a ripe, juicy peach? I love them chilled, and fresh from the farmer's market.
One of life's simple pleasures!
So lovely to look at are they, that I have painted peaches several times.
The above painting is sold.

Gotta run, am suddenly hungry.

The Yellow Tulips

The Yellow Tulips, Oil, April 2012
Dear Imaginary Art Lovers,

Here is one of my creations from this very productive Spring: The Yellow Tulips. It is a horticultural cornucopia of a yellow iris, purple allium, magenta iris, bleeding hearts, pink tulip, and yellow tulips. I could have included all those species in the title, but it would have been pretty unwieldy.

This painting could also have been titled Spring. The glory of flowers is why I love gardening and why Spring is my favorite season. In this painting, I am expressing my love of flowers and art in one fell swoop.

I am excited about my upcoming Fall show that will be all horticulture. River Farms, here I come with fifty canvases of flowers, fruit, landscapes and waterscapes.

Patsie

Blueberry Pie

Blueberry Pie, Oil, 12 x 16"

This is one of my new delicious paintings. MMM.
Nine out of ten dietitians agree that it is healthier to paint a pie than to eat a pie.
