Naples, Italy, Archaeological Museum

Treasures on display in Naples' fabulous museum include some very realistic fine mosaics rescued from Pompeii, which was buried under a barrage of ash by nearby Vesuvius.

Standing in the Crater of Mt. Etna

High above Messina, Sicily, looms the still-active Mt.  Etna volcano. Here the intrepid travelers stand in the yawning maw of Mt. Etna, waiting for fire and brimstone.

Santorini, Greece

Santorini is the most freshly, painted, swept, and tidy of the Greek islands. Especially lovely is the town of Oia. Situated up on the lip of an ancient volcano, it has sweeping views of the caldera, the deepest and biggest of its kind. It is said that Plato, the great Greek philosopher, started the old tale of Atlantis, the lost continent, based on an island that sunk into the caldera forever submerged.
If there is a more photogenic place, I have not seen it.

Athens: The Acropolis

Ancient, stunning, a major landmark: the Parthenon, high on a hill above Athens. It is part of the Acropolis, meaning literally, the high city.

Taormina

Home of cassata, near Mt. Etna, a Greek theater in Sicily still stands and remains in use today for concerts.

Sicily

We recently had the pleasure of visiting Taormina, Sicily. The emblem on this wall of three legs, like spokes, is a symbol of Sicily.
The food was lovely. Southern Italy is the land of the lemon and it is an omnipresent source of cheerful decor.
Ciao for now!
