Voila!

Dear imaginary friends,

This oil painting has undergone so many permutations! The lemons and pitcher were not in the original composition, moreover, the color scheme was green, purple and pink. I kept tweaking it, and finally decided that I would use a blue/ yellow scheme, reminiscent of the decor in the south of France. Et voila! Much improved.

Sicily

We recently had the pleasure of visiting Taormina, Sicily. The emblem on this wall of three legs, like spokes, is a symbol of Sicily. 

The food was lovely. Southern Italy is the land of the lemon and it is an omnipresent source of cheerful decor.

The New Struggle with the Painting Process

Dear Imaginary Friends,

Now that my home painting commission is done, I am back at work on another unfinished project, a painting that has gone through many torturous changes. The next thing that I plan to change is the perspective on this table. It just looks all wrong to me.

On the plus side, I like the composition, and the color harmonies, although perhaps my pink is too bright.

Unfinished

Dear Imaginary Friends,

This painting of an apple branch was begun a week and a half ago, and this Wednesday, I added the lemon compote to the upper right hand corner. It was looking a little empty and a little boring. Every painting needs to involve the viewer with more than one focus of interest.
And now that I have started editing it, I wonder if it needs more. Perhaps a pitcher to replace the left hand draped box?

Dear Imaginary Friends,

Pictures do not pop off the canvas without a lot of work. Above, you can see the work space at the Art League where I arduously painted this still life last Wednesday. 

Below is my finished product. I already have framed it!

This newest oil painting of mine will be part of my massive exhibit at River Farms this Fall, from September through January.

I have painted so many floral, fruit and vegetable, and landscape works that I am swimming in them. But that is what it takes to fill up the whole American Horticultural Society Headquarters. I have been working toward this show for two years.
