Marigolds, Carnations and Mango

How sweetly do these flowers sing? I had a lovely time painting these common flowers in my pretty vases. They feel so fresh and alive to me. The Mason jar is also quick and seemingly effortless. (Although I can promise you, no painting is ever effortless.)It is the goal of any artist, whether playwright, actor, or ballet dancer, to make the difficult look easy.

A new year -- 2018 -- is upon us, and we are invited to take stock of ourselves, examine our lives, and search out meaning. A timely self-analysis is in order. What have we accomplished in 2017, and what remains unfinished?

Getting serious, and going deep is always a little scary. It requires discomfort, and truth telling.

How have we succeeded, and how have we failed?

May you find peace, joy, and continuous self-improvement. We grow better, every day, in every way.

 Cuba is a nation trying to transition. Literacy is high but so is the poverty level. Jobs are scarce, and pay very poorly. Even doctors make only $25 per month.

Hemingway During His Cuban Years

The old architecture of Havana and Cienfuegos is gorgeous. Yet, there is no freedom of the press, freedom of information, freedom of travel. Castro's regime stole money from their people and it is virtually bankrupt.

Shaya Restaurant

Shaya in New Orleans, LA, is a lovely spot on Magazine Street and serves delicious hummus and entrees. Uncharateristically of the Southern food scene, the food is Israeli. And, it is a total wow!
