A Pair of Pears

Dear Imaginary Friends,

What tastes better in autumn than a nice juicy Bartlett pear? Not much, so I painted the same pear in two different poses as a visual poem to its tastiness. The first one is the pear at attention and the second one is the lazy recumbent pear.

Yellow Pear, 7 x 5", Oil

Pear Down, 7" x 5", Oil

Harmony in Green, 16 x 20", Oil

I also painted a green chicken. Check it out! It is a safe bet that this is the first and last painting you will ever see of a green chicken! You will notice the same silver tumbler appears in two paintings, as does the same Bartlett pear. Hey, a girl only has so much stuff to paint! The cast has a broad repertory of poses, much like musical chairs.

The Yellow Pear and the Harmony in Green, aka, Green Chicken, were hung today by yours truly in my one woman show at River Farm. If you haven't seen the show yet, it is up through January 7, 2013.

Gifts, Gifts, and More Gifts!!

Dear Imaginary Friends,
Where is the best place in Del Ray, Alexandria, to find gifts for every occasion? AH, easy! It is A Show of Hands. All items therein are hand crafted, and one of a kind.
Wanna see some of their inventory? Why, of course, I would be glad to help with that, especially since I have nine paintings there.

Oscar wants you to take him home tonight!!

Three Friends, 8 x 10", Oil, $300
Oscar the Ostrich, approx. 16 x 12", Oil, $475

Dear Imaginary Friends,

Here we have a very lonely ostrich who sorely needs a good home. Won't you please visit him on his wall at A Show of Hands? While you are at it, visit the pears, too. Although the pears have made friends, they would also like to go home with you and hang out.

Pears, 8 x 10", Oil, 2011

Dear Imaginary Friends,
Yup, I was productive today. I painted a new oil painting of three pears. They inspired me to start thinking, what if pears could be criminals, in a line up?

Here is my backstory on these three suspicious characters. They are being held for questioning as to their participation in a con man scheme. One of them was caught dressed up as an sweet potato.

The prosecution rests.

Your witness!

The Real Thing

Dear Imaginary Friends,
For your perusal and comparison, I present, the original still life from my painting session. Please compare it to the oil painting I did, in my last blog entry. Now you know if I am lousy or not! My painting looks pretty much like the set up, I hope. I eliminated the green foil around the plant, because I felt that it complicated matters a tad too much.
It's rather intimidating to stare at a blank canvas and then try to capture reality. There are good painting days and bad painting days. You never know, going on, which it will be.
Lately, I have further challenged myself  by working on four different paintings simultaneously, inching each a little further toward completion. While I worked on this piece, I also painted two figures, a fig tree, and a pansy plant in a cache pot.
Tired,
Patsie
